On 21st September 2024, we as a team of Law Office of Paromita Majumdar had the privilege of visiting NGO run by Plan Care Foundation to conduct a legal awareness session for women. The experience was deeply fulfilling and eye-opening. The NGO is dedicated to empowering women by providing education and resources, and this session was aimed at informing them about their legal rights and protections.

The audience was comprised of women from diverse backgrounds, each eager to learn about the laws that affect their daily lives. We discussed a number of issues that these disadvantaged women deal with, including domestic abuse, dowry-related abuse, sexual harassment, child marriage, and so on. We also informed them of some women-focused laws that the government has passed to address these issues, like the Maternity Benefit Act, the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, the Dowry Prohibition Act, and the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act.

We also spoke about a few government initiatives in Delhi and India that aim to improve the lives of these underprivileged groups. The attendees were incredibly passionate and eager to learn about their legal rights as women, so this was definitely an event I will never forget. Additionally, these women had a great deal of talent. The interactive nature of the session encouraged open dialogue, with the women sharing their personal stories and concerns.

We discussed the different issues that these exquisite craftspeople were facing, and gave them knowledge which strives to improve the lives of the less fortunate in society. The determination of these young ladies and girls to become financially independent through their craft as well as their openness to the new information we gave truly drew my attention.

One of the highlights of the day was seeing the enthusiasm with which the women absorbed the information. Many of them were unaware of their legal rights, and it was rewarding to see their confidence grow as they became more informed. The NGO staff was incredibly supportive, helping to organize the session and ensuring that the women felt comfortable and safe throughout. All in all, it was a really rewarding experience. 

Overall, this visit reinforced the importance of legal awareness, especially for women in vulnerable situations. By providing them with knowledge and tools to protect themselves, we take a significant step toward gender equality and justice. I look forward to continuing my work with Plan care Foundation and contributing to their mission of empowering women through education and awareness.
